impart starts in December

Fixing laptops and giving them a new lease of life – that is what refugees learn in the new project ‘impart’. Starting in December tutors will pass on solid knowledge of IT in a series of workshops. The Tübingen-based  FabLab Neckar-Alb e.V. is organising an educational project for refugees funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg. The participants refurbish donated laptops which are then passed on to refugee  organisations. In a series of workshops refugees learn to repair hardware, install operating systems and select appropriate software. They also learn about configuration of networks and the topic of internet security. By attending regularly refugees improve their employability. At the end of the course a certificate documents the skills acquired.  FabLab requests hardware and monetary donations to support the project.

The ‘impart’ workshops begin on 7 December with  a practical introduction to hardware.

2. Fräs-Workshop

A new life for serveral laptops

You’ll probably want to know what happened to the 20 laptops, that were ready after the last reboot-day: Most of them are already given away to serveral groups and users.

Six laptops are not at Asylcafé in Französisches Viertel in Tübingen, three have been given to www.weststadtasyl.de, two are used by underaged refugees via TeamTraining GmbH and four laptops are at Hirrlingen for German classes.

Again thanks a lot to all our donators and to everyone who contributed to finish the laptops!
