We are still rebooting

Reboot is the project of the fablab in which donated laptops are made ready and forwarded to people with little income. There are still many requests.

The reboot meeting is every sencond thursday 7-9 pm. The next date is 25th of January. We are always happy to meet new volunteers! We are also offering help on every second thursday between 7-9 pm. And we are still searching for laptop donations. We’ve tried to find some requirements, because very slow laptops cause an unhappy reboot team… We are searching for laptops with at least Intel core Duo or similar an 2 GB RAM. If you aren’t sure whether your laptop meets the requirements, just hand it in. If it is too slow or too broken we’ll dispose it.

Meanwhile in the fablab: Still fixing laptops

Our project reboot is all about giving used laptops a second life at refugee organisations and for people with low income. It’s been a while since I gave the last information about reboot here in the blog, but the project is still working. We took the time to adjust some of the organization in the background. We are now having a better overview of the donated laptops and also of everyone still in search for a laptop. And we still have both: Donated laptops that need help and some requests for laptops.

We also made the decicions to change our meetings from irregular dates with many volunteers to regular dates with a little smaller crowd, to keep us less busy. Nevertheless we look forward to volunteers who are willing to help us. Our next meeting is at August 24th 7 pm. At the moment we mostly need help with software. We have two PowerPCs we would like to use and we are have some laptops with wifi problems. Please feel free to join us.

We do also still need laptop donations, because there are constantly requests for laptops. If you want to donate a laptop, contact us via reboot-info@nullfablab-neckar-alb.org

Heute warten 38 Laptops auf fleißige Schrauber*innen und Tüftler*innen. Von Problemen beim Starten bis zu dem Tausch eines Displays ist alles dabei.

Thank God: Another Reboot-Event

We are looking for voluntaries for our next reboot event. It will happen at 19th of March starting from 3 pm. Do you want to join us fixing and upgrading donated laptops? Just come in and be a part by fixing hardware, drinking our coffee, organizing the event or eating some cake. We are also searching for more “old” unused laptops – do you have a spare one? We will securely erase all data, fix some problems and install a new operating system. If you want to donate a laptop please write a mail to reboot-info@nullfablab-neckar-alb.org or visit us on monday or thursday from 6:30 pm to 10 pm.

Review for 2016

Wieder ist ein Jahr rum! Das fablab ist jetzt drei Jahre alt und etabliert sich mehr und mehr in der Tübinger Kulturszene. In diesem Jahr haben wir aber auch farbenfrohe Akzente im Bereich Flüchtlingsarbeit gesetzt. Zeit für ein paar kleine Impressionen aus 2016 🙂

Das Fablab hat das GENERATE! Festival mitgestaltet und zu einem grandiosen und bunten Event werden lassen.

Für alle die dabei auf den Geschmack gekommen sind gab es die Make Art Workshops in der zweiten Auflage. Sie waren wieder ein großer Erfolg. Das Programm der Workshops war vielfältig und abwechslungsreich und hat viele Teilnehmer*innen aus der Region und darüber hinaus begeistert.

Unser Projekt Reboot ist in sein zweites Jahr gestartet. In mehreren großen Veranstaltungen wurden zahlreiche Laptops gelöscht, neu mit Betriebssystem ausgestattet und wieder für den Einsatz flott gemacht. Es haben uns sehr viele Tübinger*innen gespendet und ebenso viele haben bei den Reboot-Treffen geholfen die Laptops zu reparieren. Wir haben über 25 Laptops an verschiedene Tübinger Organisationen und Einzelpersonen übergeben. Auch 2017 soll Reboot weitergehen: Es liegt wieder ein großer Stapel gespendete Laptops bereit, der jetzt darauf wartet bearbeitet zu werden. Denn Bedarf gibt es auch weiterhin. Das heißt auch: Wenn ihr noch alte Laptops unter dem Bett liegen habt, die nur noch Staub sammeln, könnt ihr sie gerne für Reboot spenden!

Etwas Neues und trotzdem gleich wahnsinnig erfolgreich war die Basic-Reihe. Sieben Workshops zu verschiedenen Themen des Fablabs sollten es insbesondere Neulingen erleichtern einzusteigen, oder das Fablab und seine Möglichkeiten einmal kennen zu lernen. Die Workshops waren allesamt sehr gut besucht und die Workshops mit begrenzten Plätzen alle ausgebucht. Deswegen geht es 2017 auch gleich weiter mit einer neuen Ausgabe der Basic-Reihe. Teilweise gibt es neue Themen, teilweise ähnliche Workshops für alle, die in diesem Jahr nicht zum Zug gekommen sind.

Im Dezember hat endlich unser neues Projekt Impart begonnen: In zahlreichen Workshops sollen Geflüchtete Computerwissen zu Hard- und Software kennen lernen und anschließend (und währenddessen) anwenden um ehrenamtlich ihr Wissen an andere weiter zu geben und bei der Reparatur defekter Computer zu helfen.
